Rohit Sharma’s “First And Last ODI Cricket World Cup As….”: Sourav Ganguly Makes A Big Claim – NDTV Sports

The Cricket World Cup is less than six weeks away. Ahead of that the Asia Cup 2023 is getting all the limelight, with the India vs Pakistan match on Saturday generating all the right noise. The Indian cricket team hasn’t won any ICC trophy since 2023. The onus now falls on captain Rohit Sharma and former skipper Virat Kohli to guide the team to the Cricket World Cup 2023.  Picking out Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill as the three key players for India in batting, former India captain Sourav Ganguly said that these three players must stand up for India to have a good chance.
“Virat is playing very well. He has looked very good in the last few months and is batting extremely well and will be India’s go to man along with Rohit Sharma. Rohit as captain is playing his first and last World Cup. I am speaking about the 50-over World Cup here which will come after 4 years. He could play T-20 but this is a different format. And he too has a superb record in world cups. 5 hundred in the last World Cup where he was brilliant. Finally, it is Shubman Gill who has that class to stand up and win matches for India. Each of them will have to stand up if India has to win the tournament,” Ganguly said on ‘Backstage with Boria’.
All three is expected to feature in the India vs Pakistan clash at the Asia Cup 2023. The continental event is the last chance for experimentation for the teams before the cricket World Cup. While Virat Kohli was part of the ODI Cricket World Cup winning 2011 team, Rohit Sharma is yet to taste success in the ODI World CUp.

All set for the Champions League draw – FC Barcelona

The Grimaldi Forum, Monaco is the venue for today’s Champions League group stage draw, with FC Barcelona among the eight top seeds as the 32 qualifiers learn which teams they’ll be have to beat in order to advance to the all-important knockout stage. It all starts at 6pm CEST.
Last under current system
This is the last time the competition is following the now familiar format of eight groups of four teams followed by a round of 16. From next season, UEFA will be switching to a system featuring four additional teams and a total of eight group games using the ‘Swiss’ system of two groups.
But that’s next year. In 2023/24 things are the same as ever, and Barça have the advantage that as the defending Liga champions, they will be one of the top seeds. At least in theory, that means a slightly less punishing route than the ones that in the last two editions meant they failed to progress into the knockout rounds.
The Catalans cannot be drawn against any of the winners of Europe’s highest ranking leagues, Manchester City (who are also the defending UCL champions) Bayern Munich, PSG, Benfica, Napoli and Feyenoord, nor can they play Europa League winners Sevilla (who they couldn’t meet anyway due to the rule separating teams from the same national federation).
Pot Two
Hence, at least on paper, the most dangerous opponent that Barça can face will be drawn from Pot Two, although they cannot play either of the two second-seeded Liga teams, Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid.
But they could cross paths with the side that knocked them out last season and which went all the way to the final, Inter Milan. There’s also the team they lost to in the Europa league, Manchester United, while Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Oporto and Arsenal are all clubs with strong European pedigree too.
Pot Two
There are some tricky teams among the third-seeded teams as well. Barça could meet any of these (with the only condition that two sides from the same domestic league cannot play in the same group).
These potential opponents are Shakhtar Donetsk, Red Bull Salzburg, AC Milan, Lazio, Red Star Belgrade, Braga, PSV Eindhoven and Copenhagen.
Among these, there is one side that Barça has never played in an official fixture before, Salzburg, and one that they have never even met in a friendly, Braga of Portugal.
Pot Three
In the lowest seeded pot, Barça cannot play fellow Liga sideReal Sociedad, but could be drawn against any of the other six contestants, who are Galatasaray, Glasgow Celtic, Lens, Newcastle United, Union Berlin, Young Boys Bern and Royal Antwerp.
Galatasaray and Celtic are familiar rivals for Barça, and the blaugrana have clashed with Newcastle a few times over the years too. But it’s a long time since the last meeting with Antwerp, and although the Catalans have played Young Boys in friendlies, all of those games were played 70 or more years ago. And in this last pot there are two more teams that Barça have never played before in any kind of fixture: Lens and Union Berlin.

Who could move on transfer deadline day: Salah, Amrabat, more – ESPN – ESPN India

The transfer window has entered its final stages as the clock ticks down to Friday’s deadline. The Premier League is set to close for business at 6 p.m. ET / 11 p.m. BST (find out when other leagues close here), but despite time running out for deals to do be done, there are still lots of club and players around Europe aiming to get moves over the line.
Some will get done, others will fizzle out before the deadline, while there are players who will be linked over the next 24 hours who are highly unlikely to join a new team.
Here are some deals that could happen on Friday.

Editor’s Picks
File this one in the “highly unlikely” category, but because of the sums reported to be involved in terms of potential transfer fee (£118m) and wages (£65m per year), Al Ittihad’s interest in the Liverpool forward must be taken seriously. Liverpool insist Salah is going nowhere, while the Saudi window is open until Sept. 20, but it’s still one to watch.
Manchester United have held a summerlong interest in the Morocco midfielder, but financial restrictions at Old Trafford mean they can only structure a loan move. United’s initial offer was rejected by the Serie A club, but the player is keen to sign, so this one should get done.
The versatile Tottenham defender is the subject of interest from Fulham and Bayern Munich, while he has been told he can leave Spurs by coach Ange Postecoglou. It’s a straight choice: stay in London with Fulham or hook up with close friend and former Spurs teammate Harry Kane at Bayern. Though Bayern are also tracking Fulham’s João Palhinha, so that could make an impact on where he ends up.

Hislop urges Maguire to leave Man United
Shaka Hislop believes Harry Maguire should leave Manchester United if he wants to further develop his career.
Man United boss Erik ten Hag is happy to offload the world’s most expensive defender (£80m), and West Ham are prepared to strike a £30m deal to sign him, but despite a lack of opportunities at Old Trafford, Maguire is resisting a move. Deadline day may prompt a late U-turn by the England international.
Brighton have moved ahead of Tottenham in the race to sign the Barcelona forward on a season-long loan. The prospect of European football at the Amex and Brighton’s reputation as a club that dramatically improves players is likely to swing the deal in Brighton’s favour. As a result, Barca could land João Félix on loan from Atletico Madrid as a replacement.
The former Manchester United midfielder is a free agent after seeing out a 12-month deal at Nottingham Forest. The 30-year-old has seen interest from Saudi Arabian clubs, but West Ham are frontrunners after opening talks to re-sign a player who impressed during a loan spell at the London Stadium in 2021.

Laurens: Chelsea would drive Cucurella to Man United themselves
Julien Laurens explains why he doesn’t feel a loan move for Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella makes sense for Manchester United.
Just 12 months after sealing a £63m move from Brighton to Chelsea, Cucurella is on the way out at Stamford Bridge with Manchester United close to agreeing a loan deal to solve their injury crisis at left-back after injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.
Ryan Gravenberch: Bayern to Manchester United or Liverpool
Liverpool and Manchester United are both interested in signing the Bayern Munich midfielder, but with United focusing their attention on Amrabat, the path is clear for Liverpool to seal a loan deal for the 21-year-old, who only signed from Ajax last summer for 18m.
The Eintracht Frankfurt forward is holding out for an 80m move to Paris Saint-Germain and is refusing to train with the Bundesliga club in an effort to force the transfer to go ahead. PSG need a forward, so expect this one to happen, with Hugo Ekitike possibly moving the other way as part of the deal.

Burley: This Tottenham squad is not good or deep enough
Craig Burley gives his thoughts on Tottenham’s exit from the Carabao Cup in the second round.
Tottenham are pushing hard to sign the Wales forward as they attempt to reinvest the £88m received from Bayern Munich for Harry Kane. Forest want at least £50m from clubs keen on Johnson and, with Spurs set to miss out on Ansu Fati to Brighton, Postecoglou could move for him. Brentford are also reportedly in the battle and have had a £43m bid rejected.
French club Lorient and Turkish side Galatasaray are both in talks with Manchester United over a move for the former Ajax midfielder. Van de Beek, who signed for 45m from Ajax in 2020, has endured a miserable three years at Old Trafford and has no prospect of game time, so a deal with either club is likely.
Barcelona want to sign the Portugal defender from Manchester City, and a loan deal is likely. But the LaLiga champions must offload a number of players to enable them to register him with the league to comply with their salary cap regulations.
